Has anyone used HPTuners and what do you think of doing your own tuning?

Study into them before you leap. I know at least one for the 4.0 SOHC required premium fuel. Being that you have a 5.0, according to your profile info, you may have a lot more options than the 4.0 SOHC.

Yeah. I have a 2000 chevy 1500 regular cab in my shop with a blowed up 4.3 in it now. My wife's aunt has all but given it to me. Still has some sentimental value. I've already built a 5.3(cam, headers, long tubes, injectors, etc) to put in it. I have a 4l80e to swap in it also. I have been watching lots of videos and reading on youtube and forums. I can learn how to do it. It will just take time and a lot of saving and editing files.

I use Megasquirt MSPNP2 on my 5.0 -- always a steep learning curve, but it gets easier. There are some helpful experts on the Mustang forums. The big benefit is you can just plug it in to the 60 pin EEC IV connector if that's what your using.

Efi tuning is something that I personally leave to people with years of experience and a dyno.

It can be learned like anything else with lots of time and patience. It's something I've wanted to do for a while now.
