So there is a guy on craigslist trying to get rid of a D35 that is supposedly locked with 4.56's.

It's already out of the truck so I figured when I go look at it tomorrow I'll pull the pumpkin off to see how it's locked (he said he didn't know) and check the condition of the gears.

Is there a specific ring gear thickness I could measure to see if they actually are 4.56's? What other ways could I identify them?

Look for markings on the ring gear such as 41-9, or 4.56.

You can also count the teeth (should have a 41T ring, 9T pinion)

Yes.....should have either.

Pay close attention to the contact surfaces of the ring gear and pinion. There shouldn't be and pits, etc.

Hopefully it's locked with a lock-rite, aussie, or detroit, etc.....not welded.

Thanks you guys, yeah I really hope it's not welded. That would pretty much kill the deal for me.

I wasn't sure about the markings, I'll be sure to look for those (or just count) :icon_thumby:

If it's welded, and it's a good deal, see if you can get a few more $ off. I have an open carrier I'll give you if you had to swap out a welded one.

Alright... brought her home.

Gears looked good, axle overall was in decent condition. Buuuuuuut it was welded.

Talked him down a bit and walked away with a 4.56 geared D35 front end (minus drivers side caliper & rotor)

For a whopping $150! :icon_bounceblue:

Got a spare set of axle shafts with the deal too.

If you have that carrier, I am interested. :icon_thumby:

Good deal even if it is welded.
