While the engine is out I would bolt the converter and bell housing up and spin it around a few times, make sure the whole thing is spinning true.
I have never seen a C4 do this, but I have heard of A4LD bell housings warping and causing all sorts of problems, damaging converter seals, rear mains, I could see a thrust bearing being affected if conditions were right.
