in doing some more reading, I came across an article that mentions flipping the leaf spring mounting shackles. It claims that by doing this, and running long springs, 20 inches of travel can be achieved. anyone here done it and can comment? If you could perhaps take a picture so I can get a better idea of how this works, i would appreciate it, as I am having a hard time picturing it.
thanks
TC

Yes it is possible. May find more info on Dezert Rangers. Not something most of the TRS users are into doing.

Here is one on an F150 but it's the same idea. It's a tension shackle setup. Stock rangers use a compression shackle.

This also allows for a lower center of gravity in the rear. which is wanted for pre runners for obvious reasons. My friend has got this setup in his ranger and it also helps with wheel hop if you decide to ditch your blocks while your at it.

Hey CopyKat how hard was that to do? I wanna do that to my 87 SuperCab some time soon, I wanna end up at near the same height, maybe an inch lower. How much of a difference in height was there and did you need new shackles?

I went from an extended shackle and F150 leaves to this setup. Doing the flip alone Droped the shackle point of the spring nearly 5". I needed the block to get some height back.

High lift leaves would the the ticket but I needed to find out how this setup worked on my truck before I spent money into newer parts.

Axle wrap is all but gone. I pealed out of a buddies place yesterday. Had the L/S been tight I'd have left 2 black stripes. But I left 1 heathy one instead.

I've put together so many different packs only to crack leaves and losen center bolts I'm done with those days. If I get a newer pack it will be a used set of Deavers, or ones out of a durango.

Durango leaves? Do they give similar performance to a Deaver pack? Obviously not the same I guess.

They have arc to them since the Durango is spring under. I've heard that they give nearly 4" lift on a Ranger without block. If it turns out too high for me I'd just make a longer shackle.
