Some of you may be wanting to do something similar, so I thought I'd post the outcome of my winch project. Super simple project, just needed a winch on the truck and didn't want to buy a full off road winch bumper. For what we use this truck for, we just needed a winch and nothing fancy beyond that. Couldn't find a winch plate online, only whole winch bumpers, had to make something.
It has a crossmember that picks up on the front of the truck's frame and can be removed/installed without removing the factory bumper bar. It's a standard winch plate that was cut down and welded to a subframe made from mild steel. I've been using it for a few months, has held up well and hasn't shown any signs of fatigue.
