Like Adsm said, I put an '01 SOHC in my '95. It was a few years back but I have a pretty good memory.
The '95 is an EECIV not OBDII like your '96, so your swap should be easier. If you have the full donor vehicle, you shouldn't have to modify anything really.
You'll need:
99 engine, trans, ecm, harness, exhaust y-pipe, accessories, a/c lines, coolant hoses (both rad and heater).
97 SOHC fuel rails. The '96 has a return style system, the '99 is returnless. You can use the fuel pump and lines off the 99 donor and convert the entire system to returnless instead of changing the engine rails.
The SOHC fan will line up with the OHV shroud.
Basically, if you want a cheap, easy, quick swap... find another OHV. If you really want the SOHC, it can be done with all stock parts. I personally wouldn't do the swap again, the gain wasn't worth the effort. If you want more power, find a 5.0 donor explorer.
