Hi - I got a free 99 3.0L Ranger with a blown motor. I am considering building a bracket drag truck. Nothing crazy - maybe 12 - 11 sec for now. It is worth building the 3.0L maybe with a turbo or whipple supercharger? I'm not sure if there is any performance parts available for the 3.0L - or is swapping in a 5.0L the way to go?
All I hear is whore stories on the 5.0L header issue and the frame clearance problems. This will be a carbureted motor, so no need for computers, sensors and all the other BS. Just want to get your thoughts. Thanks

How would you put a carb on a 3.0 engine? Have you ever put a turbo on a carbed engine? It's a little more complicated than a fuel injected engine. Fueling the engine under boost can be easier with a injected engine, that is why it's more common on the later vehicles.

Itll will cost you significantly more to try and get a 3.0 to go 11 seconds than it will for a 302...

Hi Stmitch

Coil spring front end. I love your truck - can you tell me what was done to your 3.0L? How much HP are you generating? Ever take it to the strip? Thanks.

Hi - I was talking about a carbed 302, not the 3.0L - sorry if I was unclear.
