simple question, i was looking at my spare POS truck with what i think has a 2.0 but then i noticed theres no mechanical fuel pump. theres an electric one on the frame rail thats clearly after market and has rigged wiring to the fuse box. the oil cap is at the back, like on a 2.0. The vin says 1987 with 2.0. Its pretty clear that one the previous owners swapped some parts out on it during its lifetime, but i doubted the engine. im wondering if he swaped a 2.3 and bolted the old 2.0 head on it, it has a new distributor, probly to replace the TFI EEC-IV one it might have came with..

so heres the big question, did all 2.0s have mechanical fuel pumps?

ok question is still unanswered, did all 2.0s come with mechanical fuel pumps or in the last few years they had electric ones? my engine has no provison for a mechanical fuel pump thus the rigged electric one.. if it is a 2.3 i'll be plesently surprised and will spend money and buy a new carb for it and it'll be my new beater.

I've never seen a 2.0 that didn't have the mech pump, since every one I have seen had a carb on top.
The only carbed engine I have ever seen from ford that used an e-pump, was a 460 in mid 80's E/F 250-350.

The bottom end could be a 2.3...mine is...and I had the 2.0 head on it for a while till I cooked it...medium rare, but it was toast...

So now I have a 2.3 block and a 2.3 head...it happens...you can also tell by simply removing the head and checking the gasket size...but by that time you're probably ready to throw things out and put better in...

Deja Vous...I seem to remember posting this but can't remember what thread...getting old...

Lol the extra 300cc isnt much. The big difference is the cam and head. Also the 2.3 only has slightly larger pistons. Also, every carborated 2.0/2.3 had a mechanical pump, the block off plate is easy to find for the pump boss. There was never an electric pump on a carbed ford. Its very possible someone took the cheap way out and put an electric one on because it was cheap and easy.
