Is that what the old dodge raiders were? Only rebadged?

I almost bought a raider like 10 yrs ago

Great score. But you left us hangin'.

Did you get the Explorer?
Oh shoot! Yes I ended up getting the 1st gen explorer as well. Super clean interior and exterior. Runs and drives fantastic!

Wonder how they stack up against a BII?

I know the one i drove had a 2.6L...cant remember if it was a 4 or a 6...but a 2.9 woulda killed it pretty handidly for power.

Not sure how they hold up either. But i do see a few for sale now and again. It was an impulse that im not sure if im happy i didnt give into or not lol

Ok, so I had the white one running…. Then one day it decided to run like crap/ backfire thru the exhaust…. I did the timing belt, fuel pump, fuel filter, plug wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil, … still after all that it runs just as bad as before.
Did the compression test and all cylinders show between 121-125 psi… like I said…. It still runs bad…. Am I missing anything? Sounds like a dead miss. Has no power, barely idles etc…. It’s the 1.6 inline 4…. Any advice is appreciated… may do a 4.0 OHV if I don’t get her running better lol

Most of those cheap small engines had flat tappet camshafts that need valve adjustments, tried that? Worn cam/tappets/valve seats would leave the valves open and lower compression and make them run bad...

I kind of figured that if the compression was good the valves wouldn’t be an issue? I can check the procedure for valve adjustment but Idk. I thought the exact same thing, but the timing belt was still intact and not an excessive amount of slack. I scoped the cylinders and did not see any visible damage and or evidence of valve contact with pistons… finding another one of these engines is a joke.

Unless you're at high altitude 120ish psi of compression isn't "good", I would expect 150-180

Believe me I can understand, that has to be worse than the Tracker I was driving, those 1.6L engines were getting hard to find and they were used in a lot of vehicles... that and the 30 pound transmission that needed rebuilt every couple years took my enthusiasm for trying to DD the thing...

I will be dropping the fuel tank this weekend and see if that’s the issue possibly? If not I will Be on the look out for a good 4.0 OHV and I’ll be doing the swap right along side with my sons bronco 2.

Went to this very nice older lady’s house to buy her late husbands 93 Ford Explorer (which is in great condition) and she offered me something I couldn’t pass up!
She had a couple old (1991-1992) Daihatsu Rocky’s sitting there and asked if I wanted them… uhh yeah! These things are not the greatest or the fastest, but they were priced just right.
The white one was her daily driver and she is the second owner since it was 2 years old. She had originally bought it in Hawaii and had it shipped State side. She had driven it for years till the repairs became too much for her. She parked it inside her garage and there it sat for 10 years untouched!
At one point she picked up a parts vehicle for it that ran And drove when she bought it!
Long story just a little longer, I ended up draining the fuel, checking plugs, cap and rotor, pouring marvel mystery oil in the plug holes, putting a battery and fresh fuel in and to my surprise IT STARTED!
Been driving it around all weekend teaching my son to drive a manual and even the wife!
The offroaders would love to get their hands on those little SUV's. Probably similar to the Suzuki Samurai's too.

The Dodge Raider was imported by Mitsubishi as was the Dodge D50 pickups, they were just re-badged with Dodge stickers instead. The D50 was the Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup.

These are so sweet! If you're ever interested in selling, I'm in the market!
