Alright, I just put new gears in my front end and eliminated the C clip by welding the cap on the stub shaft and putting a spring inside of the slip shaft. My problem now is I get a noise from where the axle is pushed out against the spindle housing. The spring pressure is causing it to wear/rub and make noise. Should I just make it so it doesn't have any pressure on it during normal driving by shortening up the spring or getting a lighter spring? I am worried if I remove the spring preload so it doesn't push on the spindle, I might cause harm. Is this normal for this mod, and if it is, what did you do to fix it?

You should first start by taking that spring out, and making it an external spring.
As for the pressure issue, I never had an issue with mine. Mine had such pressure that there was quite of bit of resistance when putting the spindle on.

You haven't really run it off-road yet, have you...? If you did them welds would've busted, and your axle slipped out of the diff.

Just tellin from experience:icon_thumby:.

Yeah, avoid the internal spring. I've also never had any issue with mine :dunno:

I don't get it...if the internal spring was such a bad idea, why is there a huge write up on it in the tech section. I guess I will look into the external spring, thanks

no,i saw it. Just didn't like the idea of welding on the shaft itself.

Anyway, if it is the better way, we should just remove the other option so there isn't any question.

You don't have to weld on the shaft, that is just what I did.

I have an external spring on mine. The boot clamps (hose clamps) will hold the spring in place fine.
