Im just about to start collecting parts for my sas swap.

Can the stock xj control arms and 3 link arm be used in swapping into an 84 ranger?
If not, what length custom arms should be used? I already know what joints can be used. Thanks -Ryan-

check out escort_gts 's build..
or kroussinoffroad 's-- his mazda build was first done on long arms and d30.
and dangerranger (one of the many....lol) has ironman fab long arms and d30.
use long arms. seriously.

those stock stamped U shaped control arms from a jeep are paper thin! and can be bent by dropping them wrong.

buy some rusty's long arms (will run around $500 for the arms) and make your own crossmember to work w/ the trans mount and arm links.

ironman fab makes some nice long arms to (about $700 iirc)

Im dangerranger83, the link to my build is in my sig. You can see all of what I did to do this swap. Mine is one of the many ways of doing it. I would go longarms personally, makes life easier and you can fine tune adjust the axle under the truck too. The price of the longarms that escourt_gts and I have used have gone up but the ones that we have are worth the money. There are cheaper brands out there too or if you have the skills and whatnot, you can make a set of your own.

using DOM and joints, making your own long arms wouldn't save you much... trust me. i started to do it when i was gonna sas...

yeah.. it adds up quick
however, if you look thru my build thread, you can find lots of sas talk about a d30 sas since i considered it for awhile then changed my mind to a d35 ttb since it was gonna cost about half the price with what i could find...and just as strong (or stronger)

IF YOU WERE TO BUY RUSTY'S..

http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=RC-CA321-UV&Category_Code=ARMS

that makes up the entire arm. for $460 plus shipping. was gonna be $502 to my door i think... and making my own (without labor) was gonna cost me around $375

on my pic, the left side is frame side and the right side is the axle side

axle side uses the stock axle mounts on the d30.

on the frame side you'll have to make a crossmember or use link mounts of some sort to bolt up the johnny joints in like these

xj? not so much... who really knows what your length will need to be. best thing is to center the axle, make a measurement... and make one to fit.

the xj may be right.. it may not be...

You can use a stock xj trackbar, Im using one now but its the only thing that isnt adjustable in my setup but will be buying and adjustable one sometime next year. I was running out of good weather and got my truck finished enough to drive it and still have fun with the setup I have now. Im STILL running CV axle shafts but have ujount ones that need ujoints and whatnot. Im going to be going over my whole truck next year.

If its ujoints that people are worried about with a D30, they run the same ones and the D35 TTB.

Both setup have there gives and takes and costs to put them under your vehicle and depending on what you plan to do with your vehicle will also depend on cost and whatnot. The D30 is enough for what I do with my truck. I had wanted to a D30 swap and a few weeks later somehow ended up having one land in my lap. I can always upgrade to a D44 and just weld mounts to it and still use my longarms, they really do pay themselves off with time.

What was your previuos SAS that you had done and to what vehicle?

ive decided not to do the d30 swap because its expensive. Im going to be doing a fullwidth hp44 in front and a d60 in the rear.
