I need to remember to order new leather for a couple of my lamps and a new globe for one of the others.

I already ordered the parts but I'll look up the oil since I would rather keep the parts as spares if I can keep what the lanterns came with running.

This thread peaked my curiosity on what lanterns I have. I really had no idea other than they are white gas lanterns. So, I went out and looked. I have 1 220H and 2 220Js.

It is common for leather, like saddles and whatnot. I have used it for my leather pistol holsters. Dads 220J had a tube of official Coleman Neatsfoot oil in the clip on accessory thing and it made perfect sense to just use it.

Just the one at the moment. I have some carry cases on order to protect them and I want to clean them up some. One can never have too many lanterns. I've mostly done kerosene up until now since they work better for keeping the bugs away while camping. Especially with citronella oil in them.

The H is in the middle. I don't see the difference between it and the Js.

Take the vents off and compare. H has a cast manifold and J is stamped. How the air tubes mount to the bottom plate is also different.

Probably not as durable but newer is easier to take down... but you can take the older down farther.

I'll have to check that out. I figure some alcohol for the painted parts and some emery cloth and steel wool for the bare metal and then clear coat should fix them up. I'll try kerosene if the alcohol doesn't perform as well as expected.

I just use meguiers quick detailer spray, it seems to work pretty good and is made for paint.

Steel wool works great on the chrome parts, I used mother’s wheel polish with a towel on my J to add some more shine too.

I scored a couple new lanterns too, a yard sale find 220F that's a parts lantern - tank is rusted out and it's really beat up but had a really cool reflector handle thing. Also picked up a '73 228 and a cool Thermos gasoline lantern. The 228 is in awesome shape and runs great. Little family pic too (minus the two new ones from today.)

I really like the 228. The bottom of the vent is painted white and it's bigger so it reflects a lot more light.

The Thermos lantern is indeed made by Thermos - I had a Thermos stove too. The pump mechanism is much different but the lantern functions the same as a Coleman.

I know that I got it from an estate sale for $5...that's it. And I don't think it's a Dietz. I don't remember the brand offhand but I think it started with F... Fienzerhaug or something? and it says made in Germany on it. Probably nothing special, it was dirty and cheap so I bought it.

I read this every time you guys post... kinda makes me want to inventory my collection and see exactly what I have anymore. I've bought and sold way more then I currently have. I really need to make myself a good camping set that's ready to go. Probably one lantern... a two burner and a single burner stove. Sounds like a good winter project.
