Does anyone know what may cause the brake pedal to "click" when the brake pedal is depressed?

It is not a constant clicking, but one simple "click" as soon as the slightest pressure is put on the pedal? If l continue to press the pedal the same distance repeatedly, it will continue to click, but l have to let up on it, then press it again.

It does the same thing when the truck is on or off... it is obviously in the switch mechanism, but l cannot figure it out for the life of me... any suggestions?

Im not sure at all but on a four wheeler it clicks everytime you enage the brakes. Its the switch that causes the brake lights to turn on. It could be what your hearing with your truck but have not sure at all.

It's the relay clicking for your shift interlock. It's so you can't take it out of gear without your foot on the brakes. Safety feature thing.

That shouldnt be the case, my truck is manual... :icon_confused:

Are the brake switches specific like manual vs. automatic? Because a safety switch would be unnecesary on a manual, but if they were specifc to the type of transmission that would make sense...

My '90 used to click when I pressed the clutch... It was the switch that disengaged the cruise control when you pushed the clutch...

Some seem to be louder then others, but it's just the brake light switch. You may be able to insulate the switch somehow to quiet it down some, or try swapping it for a junkyard one but thats about it.

My truck does it sometimes.....wondered if a bare reverse wire was rubbing on a bare brake light wire and when both get juice at the same time they short?/click a relay??? It's definitely a clicking relay sound and not hardware/clips in the caliper/pad area

My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
If that is your only problem, count your blessings and enjoy life.

It is human nature to have to deal with problems....so much that we will create them if not enough exist. This why people in advanced countries still complain about things like the thermostat not having wifi control.

I enjoy life despite larger problems than this...my father isn't doing so great, my mom gets tired dealing with him.....I can still wanna find the source of a truck click....not that big a deal......checked my reverse bulbs for the hell of it, one was toast, maybe that has something to do with it
