Pull Engine & trans together, & put it back the same way. The Ranger with a small tunnel is a pain to work around for disconnecting the engine.

Engine and trans together...no question. The worst bolts to access on the trans are the ones attaching it to the engine. If you pull them together, you can remove them with total access.

Pulling the trans adds in removing the driveshaft, trans mount, linkage/shifter, a couple of electrical connections, and coolant lines (auto trans). In other words, all easy stuff and quicker than trying to get the bolts out holding trans to engine.

Only other thought, you need to have the front of the vehicle jacked up so the tailshaft of the trans will clear when you are pulling them (at least this was the case in my experience).
