Anybody ever fab up replacement body mounts?

Looking for opinions on this.

I have two different options,

A) Find a donor truck at the yard, and cut the mounts out. Reweld on mine.

B) Fab up (or have someone fab) a set of front mounts for my truck.


I'm assuming it would be easier just to make new ones, has anyone else ever made them?

No, that's not a rust hole in the frame right there either.

I don't know if you're interested, but they sell these at Rock Auto for 50 dollars. They call them a cab support, P/N CCC57680U.

What I'd probably do is just cut off or grind down the very top area of the bracket, then weld a large thick washer on top to repair it (the middle hex can be recreated using a rat-tail file or something similar if all you can find are round-hole washers).

Anybody have a picture of what these look like when they're not rusted? lol

Yep (looks like I can still make out 3-4 sides of the hex on yours, so I guess imagine where the last 2-3 sides would be lol).

thats what i did on my old ranger i got some 4 inch angle iron from work drilled a hole for the mount to go through ( cant remember the exact size) and welded it to the frame

Looking into the washer idea 4x4 junky suggested. I found a scrap washer in my ranger bits that is nearly the right size, should give my fastener guy something to work with when I request two large washers. Mocking it up to the mounts I should be able to estimate the location of where it should be quite easily.

And yes, I have a bin of "ranger bits."

I had the same problem with my frt cab mounts. I took the old mount washer with through shaft and drilled it out to fit the new bushing. then welded the washer to the old mount.

Yup, I ran into that problem on my choptop when I replaced the body mount bushings on two mounts. I just cut a piece of steel to fit with the right size hole and welded it on.... using an old oxy-act welding set my dad had (he had the proper filler rod for it too, no wire coathangers here). The steel was in the scrap pile and dad still had gas in the tanks so it was pretty much a freebee to repair.

Mocked up the new core support and it appears to be wider. Are 2001 frame widths larger than 1993 frame widths? Everything else lines up as it should (as in slight modifications needed) but the frame mounts are a few inches off..

goood LUCK.. lol ive been there and done that. i did a 00 body swap on my 95 frame.... needless to say i learned the hard way what fit.. i wanted the newer 00 front end bodystyle.. which is the same core support as your.i bought a new one and started looking at it. i ground off the body mounts on the frame and extended them out i think 2 inches on each side.. then the radiator mounts.... i had to cut and reweld them where they needed to be. other than that everythng else worked out., and yes they are wider. you have to stay with your radiator as well. a newer radiator wont fit.
