Hello! New member of TRS here! Figured it was high time I made myself an introduction here and tell a bit about my history with the Ranger.

My history with the Ranger goes back just two years when I got my first one at age 16. It was a 2000 Supercab XLT 3.0 Auto. I lovingly nicknamed this truck Splinter as it was primarily used for hauling hood before I received the keys. They say you always remember your first time, and I had a lot of firsts with this truck (No not that, get your head out of the gutter). This truck served me faithfully when I got my license and began to daily drive it. My first winter with the truck I was being a typical teenage boy, sliding the truck around every icy corner I could and on one such curve the truck spun around of me and went up on a curb snapping the rear axle. I parked Splinter till spring when I swapped the inner axle and drum brakes and continued to daily drive the truck till fall of 2023, when I unfortunately had to retire the truck for good when the frame under the bed cracked.

I am currently on the hunt for my 2nd Ranger, looking for another configuration similar to what I had with my 2000. I have absolutely fallen in love with the Ford Ranger and hope to find one worthy of restoration.

Thanks for checking out my introduction, I look forward to seeing what this community has to offer.

wow, thats heck of a cracked frame. you need to get your next one from a more southern state.

what did you do with splinter? keep him for future parts, hopefully?

i need camper on my step side ranger too. those are hard to find for the step side configuration so i hope you kept it.

its crazy to see such a good looking truck but the underside looks like that. i have never lived anywhere were that happens so its amazing to see pics like that.

I am currently looking for a Ranger from a southern state, I am from Wisconsin and the rust unfortunately leaves most of these trucks in very poor condition. I did not end up keeping Splinter and sold him for parts to a family friend, though if I knew then what I know now, I definitely would have kept him around. The camper shell on the other hand I DID keep! and I do plan to stick it on top of my next Ranger.

we have tons of them in south texas. austin, san antonio, houston, corpus christi, and mcallen have many many choices and rust won't be a huge issue unless they used it for fishing here in corpus or in mcallen, as we are coastal areas.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Well, you named it splinter, so that's what it did. Hope you find a good one soon.
