I need to replace the ac compressor in my 2002 4 cyl. ranger. Want to go to a pick n pull junkyard to get it. Usually those parts are gone on the existing rangers. What other vehicles can be good donors? Explorers? Ford cars?

one of the places I check for compatibility is NAPAonline.
select a part, then at the very bottom of the page is a Buyers Guide tab. click that to see a list of other vehicles using the same part.
for your 2002 it only lists Rangers & Mazdas 2001-2011.
that's for an EXACT fit, others may know if the part can be made to fit.

the clutch & bearing can be replaced separately without breaking the gas if that's your issue.

My credo
Lead follow or get out of my way
A/C compressors are one of those things I typically wouldn't buy from a pick and pull place. I guess depending on mileage I might... but still probably not.

If your current one failed... chances are it blew trash through your A/C system.... a proper cleaning and flushing it out needs to be done. You will also need a new accumulator and orifice tube. Follow the the recommendation for proper addition of oil too.

Welcome to the forum

2001-2011 Ranger 2.3l or Mazda B2300 would use same compressor
Last part number was 4L5Z-19V703-AA or 4L5Z-19V703-AC

As said when your AC compressor fails the system needs to be flushed or next compressor will only last a month or so, new or used
And new receiver/drier and filter, plus oil

Thank you for those replies, didn't think of that. I'll get a new ac compressor, and make sure the system is improved so that I get the best out of it.
