94 ranger has 4x4 and dash problems

please help !!!my 94 ranger has two problems 1st when you press the 4wd high button sometimes it engages and sometimes it does not i repalced the button for the 4wd but still the same and replaced the 4wd motor with one off a parts truck but still the same??? also all the lights work on the outside and the fog light bottom lights but all the dash including the heat control lights are out vould this be the headlight switch or could it be something else looking for ideas

it sounds like you have a bad shift motor.They are known to go out. go to the tech section there is a article on how to clean it. Most of the time this will fix it.
