I have a 94 Explorer with an M50D and I have been noticing an issue on my daily commute. I drive roughly 25 miles each way and the issue seems to be the throw out bearing, it is hard to shift into 1st and reverse, usually I shift into first while still rolling. What makes me think that it is something else is by the end of the day of driving it is hard to shift into any gear at all. It seems to get progressively worse over the week, then I usually let it sit over the weekend and its fine on Monday. In the past I had a ranger that needed a throw out bearing but it just had the 1st/reverse symptoms. Once I replaced it it was fine, this one I am not sure, any advice.

If the bearing is bad, you will get rough pedal pulses under light pedal pressure. If light pedal pressure is smooth, it probably isn't the bearing. The clutch, on the other hand, could cause difficult shifting, and is connected directly to the bearing.

Try pumping the clutch pedal. If this gives you easier shifting, it is either the clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. On my truck it was both master and slave that were bad.

You need to have the slave cylinder replaced. which is also attached to the t/o bearing.

I think you are right about the slave cylinder, I replaced the throw out and slave cylinder together last time. I tried the pumping the clutch deal and it helped some, but not always.
