6 vs 8 tooth M5R1 transmission for 95 ranger 2wd

I’d pull the speedo cable out of the trans, then look in the hole and see what color the gear on the output shaft is.

None of the above, lol, stock Ranger used 7 tooth speedometer drive gear

But............Ford Driven gears, those are the ones that come out when you pull out the speedo cable unit, come in 16 to 21 tooth, 23 tooth is also available

If you have a 7 tooth drive with 3.73 axle and 28" tires you would use a 19 tooth driven gear
Switch to an 8 tooth drive and you need a 21 tooth driven gear
6 tooth drive and you need a 16 tooth driven gear

If you change axle ratios or tire size then Driven gear tooth count changes as well
So what is your tire size(diameter) and rear axle ratio?
