What do you guys think of say 4x4 hi on wet roads? As some of you Pennsylvanians might now it has been pretty pissy/rainy outside and i am tired of spinning out on every damn corner. Ive been pondering this but not sure if it would be good for the drivetrain or what not. What do you guys think?

Manual says for unimproved conditions. Gas milage will suck, wouldn't exceed 45mph with it locked in. Personally, I wouldn't, I'd just push the excelerater lighter around corners. :)

Yep, I'd avoid using it entirely on paved roads unless they're covered in snow/ice/mud, etc. Rain doesn't require it. Vehicles with a center diff are an exception, of course, but RBV's have traditional part time 4wd systems.

Don't do it. When I first got my truck, I engaged the 4wd on wet pavement just to see what would happen. The front end made it's cries of protest known.

Wet roads just aren't extreme enough conditions to justify 4wd. Just drive more carefully.

I would not use it. Just need to be lighter on the gas.

There is a old saying, "2wd gets you in, 4wd gets you out". Really simple, use 2wd until you really need the 4wd.

if you're spining out with just wet roads, get a lunchbox locker and a tire with a better compound.

I have to agree with Dave. I did have a problem before in the rain sometimes with my Ranger even with good tires on wet roads and naturally I tried using 4x4 when I had one at one point or other... did it get me going without smoking a tire? Yea. But it didn't like it at all.

I hit the point where I just start off in second gear and barely hit the stupid pedal. Works wonders.

I don't like lugging the engine, it can do bad things to the cylinder walls.

Doesn't lug on flat ground for me... Uphill it goes in first.
Ahh, just realized that you're in Oregon...

Here in PA there is pretty much no such thing as flat... it's uphill or downhill, lol.

no. never lock it in on wet roads.. if you're worried about spinning out then locking it into 4x4 hi will make it worse. slow down

it will be hard on the drivetrain
