My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
Would this work? Then I wouldn't have to worry about the dang c-clips.

I would much rather see the c clips eliminated than the ring gear ground down.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

The ring gear grinding is so that the cross pin can be installed. It has nothing to do with c-clips.

C-clip eliminator will definitely alleviate your problem. It will also prevent a C-clip failure and is much more reliable.

I don't know if that kit will work (probably have to call Moser to verify that it will) but you still will need to grind the ring gear.

C clips aren't really as much of an issue as they're made out to be. Yes, eliminating them is pretty cool, but is it REALLY worthwhile...? Maybe for drag racing or something like that... for offroad vehicles, I like parts I can get at 6PM on a Saturday from Autozone... it would be a real drag to break a shaft, tear up that bearing and have to order it from Moser. Not a big deal if you just put it back on your trailer and haul it home but if you drove your rig halfway across the country and then broke something 50 miles from town, it gets messy.

Already ground the ring gear. This is a good point about parts, I really didnt think about that. I am going to go through the set-up of the lcoker again and make some more measurements and see where I am at. I'll post back with my ridiculousness.

I had to grind the ring gear on my 8.8 too. I found it was easier to install the C-clips in my 8.8 by having the rear end on jacks, pulling the shaft into the housing with the toes of one foot and putting the clip on prior to pulling the wires holding the small spring loaded pin in the locker.

I am hoping to get my Ranger back today. It's in a friend's shop getting a locker, 4.10s and a shift kit. I don't know what brand of Locker Rick will be using. I'll get all that info, and if he had to grind on any of the ring teeth to put it in, when I get it back. If not today, should be tomorrow.

In a 7.5 I am guessing you will have to with 4.10s - although not too much. Keep us posted.

If the C-clip almost (but not quite) goes in, I'd say just sand or grind the clip a little bit thinner (not more than about 15% or so thinner though).

Seems I've also seen C-clip kits that give you several different thickness clips... That might be another option.

I'm an idiot....dirp. I took everything out and re-did the install. After I got everything in I realized that previously I had been trying to wedge the clip inbetween the teeth of the locker. All I had to do was utylize the flat section of the driver and it went right in. BWhahahahaha!!
