Recently got my 4 liter (2004) used from a private seller. Opened the hood to find that one of the screws holding the throttle body in place had a broken off head. So I removed TB and luckily I got the broken screw out with some vice grips. Of course now I need to replace that screw and I'm not having much luck. Tried ordering OEM hardware from ford and it was way off. (Couldn't find much specifics for the TB on this engine anyway) The screws I'm looking at have a particular thread pattern that doesn't seem too common. I've herd it called "hi-lo," and/or flanged. Heads are 8mm hex. I know better than to look for fasteners at auto parts shops, and my local hardware stores are clueless. Does anyone know where I could find these screws, or ones close enough? Maybe this is a question for a hardware forum, but any knowledge is much appreciated!

If you are coming up dry with Ford and the other places, I would suggest a trip to the junkyard. Chances are very good you will find what you need and it will work.

Get your hands on a metric tap & die set and determine what the thread size is.
Measure the length needed.
Go from there.
Ha, the 'hardware store' (industrial supply house, really) I'd send you to is 3,000 miles from Oregon.
Nice people in Oregon from my experience.

Take a bolt to your local bolt supply warehouse. Or directly to a ford parts service center.

If you can find a Ford CD manual for that year model, (must be branded by Ford) AND learn well enough how to search it you can likely find that screw, it's size AND part number

They are a screw with a weird thread pitch for screwing into plastic without a threaded insert. Not surprising that he's having problems finding it.

Top view\pic below of ThrottleBody attached to Manifold, screws circled in red;
likely a German specialty flange screw, considering where engin was made.
Three possible solutions:
* HexHeadFlanged LagScrew from the Bolt+Nut isle of your local hardware store;
measure Thread diameter with a Caliper.
* Smaller diameter HexHead FlangeBolt or StandardBolt that fits thru existing holes;
add FlatWashers as needed, HexHead NyLocNuts on the backside; stainless preferred.
* a JY run to find an identical replacement from another Ranger\Explorer\SportTrac\...
A dab of AntiSieze\AxleGrease\Vaseline on the bolt threads & don't over tighten,
as a courtesy for the next poor bas'ard who needs to work on this vehicle+part.

Not sure if same is used on your 2004 V6~4.0~SOHC,
but the 2001 TB part# is 1L5u-9e926-ca, pic below.
