There fit. And then there is FIT!!!. Go to the tech section and read up on the differences (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4_0_Page.shtml) between the two engines.
They are totally different engines; but, it has been done a number of times (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-conversions.shtml).
The tech section is good and useful.
