4.0 engine swop in 88 B2

If I have a 91. 4.0 engine with no wiring harness can I take the harness from a 91 explore and put the engine and wiring harness in my 88 B2

You will need the complete wire harness with all sensors, the computer and to simplify it, the dash from same donor vehicle.

This forum has perhaps the most comprehensive threads regarding putting a Ford 4.0L OHV into a 1st gen Ranger/BII. I am doing the same thing right now in an 87 BII with a 94 non- EGR 4.0L OHV.

So go to the engine swap folder and look it over a bit; it will probably answer a bunch of questions and give you some new ones . )

Hold on.

It's not that hard to keep the dash if you want.

91 harness only needs about 7 wires to run and drive.

Why swap?

4.0 has more torque out of the box, sure.

2.9 has more overall potential than the 4.0.

He's probably tired of the 2.9 eating coolant and leaking oil. It's fairly common knowledge - a 2.9 can go farther on a gallon of gas than it can go on a quart of oil. Not to mention that the 2.9 can't even get out of it's own way.

'91 Explorer dash (I'm assuming you only refer to the cluster) will not fit an '88 Bronco II. They are entirely different.

Oh, but I do. I modded it. It now looks, and drives, like a 1995 Ford Taurus.

there is no wiring harness that will connect a 4.0 into a first gen, it is not that difficult to splice one in though. It is far easier to do the wiring than swap the dash, I can confirm, I've done both.
