1999 reanger 2wd with the 3.0. In the cold it starts strange. for about 2 seconds after it fires the engine run really low rpm's then picks up to normal. it only does this when its around 30 degrees or lower. Also there is a permanent squeak with the serpentine belt. the belts new so im guessing some pulley needs replaced.

The cold starting issue could be caused by things like bad fuel, or dirty sensors. I would try runnin some heet in the tank and see if it improves. As for the Squeek t seems tobe a probem with 3.0L and possibly 4.0L... Mine does it when its kinda wet out and stuff. I have hear it can be caused by a missaligned tensioner too...

My credo
WHY DO I KEEP BUYING DODGES?!?!?
The squeek is the idler pulley on top of the engine, a known issue on 3.0 - a friend of mine with a 2005 Taurus even needed to replace it. A co-worker and I with 99-00 Rangers just spray di-electric grease in there and it helps a lot. Our Rangers shrieked like crazy when humid. As for the odd idle, mine does it too, but I'm in the midst of waiting for my CPS so we'll see if that clears it up. The problem with issues like these is that they're maddeningly infrequent and I can't make it occur at will to diagnose it.

its pretty frequent for me. every day this winter the ranger does it. one time it idled so low that it died and i had to restart it.

Im going to rebuild it later in the new year anyways so it may fix itself then.
