Back in 02, my 98 3.0 went through this horrid squealing phase. Belt dressing kept it tamed, but one day the belt broke. I noticed, at that time, the tensioner pulley wasn't in line with the rest of the pulleys. Replaced the tensioner and the belt, hasn't squealed again in 18 years. Did put a new belt on it last year, the other was looking pretty rough. Still didn't squeal though.
Funny thing is, the truck only had a bit over 20,000 miles and was four uears old, back in 2002 when the belt broke and the tensioner was out of line. It now has 168,000 miles on it. So that's 148,000 miles and 18 years on the after market tensioner and belt, while the factory parts made it just over 20,000. Odds bodkins.
