I have a 2003 Honda XR80 I dont know what to do with. This is because it was ran low on oil and ruined the engine. It still runs, but horribly sounding and no power...I havent torn into it yet, but probably needs a complete bottom and top end and maybe even repair the head.
The rest of the bike is in excellent condition, with many upgraded parts.

So I figure here are my options...

-Rebuild the engine myself for about $700-$1000 in parts/machine work. (which I really don't need another project right now).
-Part it out on ebay for a good chunk of change (which will also be a PITA).
-sell it locally as a parts/project bike and lose my A$$ because I dont have the title and the engines blown.
-track down a replacement engine, although from my forum reads, theres more bikes than engines out there.
-Pay my local moto shop to rebuild the engine, which is the easiest option but will cost more that the bike is worth.

I am trying to purge all my extra projects and crap before work starts up again....

What would you do?

I had an xr80 when I was a kid. Loved that little bike. Tear it apart, see how bad it truly is and go from there. Those little engines are stupid simple to rebuild though, with all the parts on hand it shouldn't take more than a few hours unless it needs to be bored.

yea its an awesome bike, has asv levers, pro circuit exhaust, plastics and seat are flawless....

Idk I figured if Im gonna tear into might as well go big bore...especially if it wont cost but a few bucks more in parts.

I priced out parts, complete bottom and top end will be around $700 bucks...worth it?

If I get lucky maybe I can get away with a used crank or just crank bearings for a few hundred bucks....

Plus I already have a ttr90 daily rider, its perfect size and power for what I use it for (not having to walk the property)

Ill try to get some pics posted, still trying to make the leap over to the new phone....

Also xr100 engines bolt right in is what the forums told me, tracking one of those down is also an option...

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
I would think youd be able to find a 250-300$ Chinese motor easily online that's a clone of the motor you have. Easy peasy. I put a lifan 125 in my atc 110 awhile ago.

It wasn't exactly bolt in for me either. But I didn't mind doing a little work to put it in there. It was better than having to spend 1200 bucks to get the stocker rebuilt.

Just use it as collateral in a trade for something you need for one of your other projects.
