2.9L a4ld to c-4 auto swap?

I am trying to find info for my cousin. he has a 86 ranger supercab w/ the 2.9and the dreaded a4ld automatic. his truck is 4x4. I read in the tech section of this site about swapping the dreadded a4ld to a c-4 three speed auto. I know that the front driveshaft from a 84-85 bronc 2 or a ranger will work for the front. and the rear has to be lengthend a bit-how much? what I'm wanting to know is besides the linkage and the kickdown what other mods have to be made to accomodate the c-4? Will the transfer case bolt up? We are finding it damn near IMPOSSIBLE to find a GOOD used A4ld!!!:

i have a a4ld with about 200 hundred miles on it for 700 still under warrenty
