Greetings:
I recently purchased a 1998 Ford Ranger in "Splash" trim. 4X4, 3.0 Liter V6, automatic transmission. 112K miles. Extended cab. 7.5" rear end. I live in the Seattle area. I've added Mile Marker manual locking hubs and Rancho RS5000 shocks. Plan on adding a limited slip rear differential. A very basic, no frills truck. Bought it mostly for hauling stuff around, but will also use as a light duty off-roader.

Splash???
Are you Sure. Splash Rangers had a Flareside bed, mono-chromatic grill, bumpers, and wheel Flares. Usually A "Splash" pinstripe decal somewhere.

Ranger 850:
No, I'm not sure, but that's why I join a forum like this - to get educated. I've owned a few Fords before, and they usually have an 'XL' or 'XLT' trim badge so the trim is easy to figure out, but this truck doesn't have either.

I looked at a 1998 Ford Ranger brochure, and am now thinking it's either an XL trim or an XLT trim with the 864A package. Supercab (obviously), 4x4, P235/75Rx15.

If someone can tell me what I have, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
PNW Ranger.

What's throwing me off is that there isn't an 'XL' badge underneath the 'Ranger' badge on the front fender. But other than that, it's a plain Jane ranger with an extended cab, 4x4, 3.0L V6, and automatic transmission. I don't think there are a lot of other options. No AC, power windows, power mirrors. 7.5" rear end with an open rear differential.

I don't think too many Rangers got the "XL" badge. My 2001 Ranger Edge is XL. NO XL badge, just a "Edge" sticker on the Bed

thats what i tell my wife. and that if i ever had to get rid of everything but one truck, i would keep the ranger since it gets decent gas mileage and does all the truck stuff i need a truck for. the titan is very nice and a crew cab but its so large that its a pain here in town. and the wrangler... well, everyone knows how wranglers are

No A/C. Fine for the spring, but we'll see what it's like in August. About the only vehicle you could buy like this today would be a Jeep Wrangler Sport.
