A little confused, GM computer would have different connector and wiring than Ford computer, and GM Cimarron was only made until 1988
Sorry that was supposed to say Ranger and seeing the great for a while

Well the ticking noise and/or the knock noise wouldn't be computer related

Lack of "noise" is computer related, like a no start or stalling :)

So reads like it might be time for a rebuild or swap

That's what I thought so I picked up a 94 4.0 from an expoler with 50k on it I'm going to put in it just thought it was weird it only made the noise when barley on the gas at 2000rpm to 3000rpm so thought I would ask I'm going to test the oil to see if there's mettle in it only other thing I could think it is is predetonation but I don't know what would cause that if you have any ideal please let me know

I can't think of any computer related cause it "ticking"

Mechanically it could be lifters, maybe an exhaust leak or loose spark plug wires(arcing)

pinging/knocking was never an issue with the 4.0l OHV since it ran 9.0/1 compression ratio
And pinging is usually associated with more load and acceleration not less
Maybe you have some carbon build up which is a double whammy, it increases compression and holds heat
