The later 5.0 Explorers have a really nice pump...

Some things might care about brake fluid level. A 1993 Ford Ranger ain't one of them.

I flat out blew a line on my '02 F-150. With no fluid in the system it still started and steered fine.

No. It was public knowledge in the internet. Somebody figured it out from the cartoons based on how old he was in a certain year and his birthday and stuff like that. Cartoon nerd knowledge.

I remember taking it a repair shop. Nobody there knew how to drive stick.

Have you tried jacking up the front and checking the steering for binding?

Not sure it should do that power steering or no.

Not yet. But it frees up and works fine all day. Then, next day I want to drive it, stuck again. Just like my knees.

I'm assuming your truck has a steering box instead of a rack and pinion system. If that is the case, then I agree it might be the pump. If it isn't, some racks have been known to wear in the housing causing a lip for the system to catch on. I don't think Ford Rangers are one of them but I know it was a thing on GM products.

This is old style box. When these wear, traditionally, they just get sloppier than normal.
