Hi-new to the Forum-I have a 89 Ranger 2.9 V6 4WD-stumbles badly on acceleration/backfire through the muffler on deceleration-lopes at idle-have replaced plugs/plug wires/cap/rotor/fuel pump/MAP sensor-any ideas on my next move-throttle body?
Thanks for advice in advance
Stephen Bryant

Have you checked for codes yet?
Have you changed the o2 sensor?

Hi, thanks for the quick response-no I haven't checked the codes-is it best to use an OBD1 scanner or just count the "Engine Light" flashes?-also how many 02 sensors are there and will an OBD1 tester pick them up?

Depends if you wanna spend 20 bucks or not. An actual reader is alot more convenient but doesn't do anything that a paperclip can't do. Should just be a single o2 sensor. And an obd1 reader cannot view live data from the sensor, it can only show the fault codes.

Did you check base timing? Is your firing order correct?
