My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I'll try to weigh the thing today and see how big of a box itll need and let you know!
it might be cheaper to crate it. I forget the details of that process, but I used to see all kinds of things at the Post office on pallets and in crates, sometimes just wrapped in the "cling-wrap" stuff, tires mostly. Crates can be custom/home made for more compact shipping.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.

Once I take the mounting brackets off the thing it'll lay pretty flat. I probably even have a box that it'll fit in.

I have thought about getting some of that black cling wrap stuff though, for times like these.

Jim.... shipping that bash bar is more than you could find one for locally. Almost messed my pants. 115$, I bought this one for 50$ lol.

Ok, thanks.

On another note, I switch the tail/brake light bulbs to LED and not the little display in the console is telling me that the lights are out. I guess I need to add a resistor.

I would just put regular bulbs in it for tails/brakes.

Leds for the plate.

I went to pull this thing out of the shop today and the shifter came loose and will spin 360 degrees. If I push down on it I can get it to engage the different gears, but I really need to figure out what's wrong and fix it quick.

Did the retaining bolts come out?

Might be the housing broke...

The 84 looks to have the TK transmission.

Here is a graphic from Core Shifters.

I know on my old Chevy 4 sp. there was a set pin that would keep the shifter from swinging left/right that fit in a groove...

Grant it was set in the case top, but there might be a drift pin in snout that keeps the pin from spinning in the shift rail unless you force it down on the shifter to grab the shift rail. Just a guess but something to think about... maybe.

This is what I'm looking at:

20230125_133658.jpg

20230125_133726.jpg

I'm looking for anyone who's had these apart and can offer input. You can see the plastic/nylon pice around the shifter that appears cracked. I can pull the shifter up and out past that. I'm guess that a ball on the bottom of the shifter is catching that and not let it come out more.

I need to find a drawing / exploded view for how all this goes together.

I had the shifter out of the FM-146 in my choptop but it’s been so long I don’t really remember what it looked like. Think it was a bit different than what you have there, mine had a little rubber boot that was all tore up, I cut the shaft, ground a flat and drilled holes to make a stub and fit a boot from a ZF-5 on and built a new shift lever. That kinda doesn’t look like it ever had that sort of boot… think that plastic part is supposed to have a spring above it to keep it pushed down as a seal but I could be wrong

So what is the knurled part of the shifter for? The one piece nylon piece or the two piece below it?

Ok, I looked at the trans pan and the trans code and this is a TK-5. Now I have to see what parts I can find for those.

I believe Greyhound is still a viable shipping option
