What's the worst that could happen?
Why is this information so hard to find?
I would think it would be public domain and easily found with a simple Google search. Sorry,...not happenin.'

Does anyone have any info on where I might look? I know I could access the info thru The Henry Ford and pay $30-some bucks, but why?

FYI, this is in regards to an 81 F100 Flareside I'm looking into. I don't have the VIN yet, but I hope I have better luck decoding that when I do get it.
Thanks.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Ford was going to throw all their old information like that out. Kevin Marti found out about it and bought everything. Now the only way to know for sure about older Ford production numbers, specific options, or special VIns is to pay for a Marti Report.

yeah...found that out just a few minutes ago after posting my question.
Also found this reference in the Ford Trucks Enthusiasts forum:
"Production numbers show 188,126 F100's built in 1981, with exactly 0 being anything other than a regular cab 2wd. "
It was in the last post of a discussion on how rare a member's truck was or was not. The member who posted that number seemed to be - or claimed to be -- somewhat of an expert on the subject. I'll look into the Marti Report if I get serious about the one I'm looking at.

But dang, Standard report- $20,
Deluxe report $55.
And the Elite report: a measly $300.

Thanks for heads up on the Marti Report

That makes prefect sense, since late ‘70s and early ‘80s f100s only came as regular cab 2wds.
