Are you making use of a transmission jack under the vehicle?

Welcome to TRS :)

Open the bleeder on clutch slave or leave the hose unhooked until trans is in all the way

Check top side, wires often fall in between engine and bell housing

Oh boy. These always go one of two ways - they slip right in, or they slip right in after 3 hours of rage, bleeding and cursing. Alwaysfloored's method works best for me, they have to be perfectly aligned and wiggle/shake/turn seems to be eventually get it there.

I alwaysput the trans in gear... then turning the output shaft will turn the input shaft. It certainly helps align the spines.

Edit... it will also let you know the splines are engaged if the output shaft won't turn.

I cut the heads off a couple long bolts to use as guide pins.
my 2005 put up quite a battle last spring.
threatening to scrap it helps.

Crossed threads are tight threads.
I put a floor jack under the front and catch a 2x4 under the crank pulley, tilt the motor up a bit. It makes a big difference.

Yup, sometimes they slide right in. Most of the time it’s a lot of cussing and fighting. Even autos can be a fight at times. Last auto I did took a lot of fighting to get it in, then the bolts didn’t want to line up, things were just a tiny bit off but every attempt to line the bolts up and it wanted to slip apart. Think I finally resorted to ratchet straps to keep it from sliding apart while I got the bolts lined up

And TAPE UP any wires in the engine bay, way up so they can't fall between engine and bell housing
Seen/read more than a few that "finally got transmission on" and then when they started to hook wires back up....................
