Hey guys sorry if I did not find a thread on this if it was already out there but I have a few questions before I buy a engine I have my eyes on. So I am Nick. I have a 99 ranger 2.3 2wd and she died yesterday and was planning on doing a v8 5.0 swap. However I can not find a explorer with one in my area for a decent price. However I did find a 95 mustang with a 5.0 for $1500. Running but was hit pretty hard in the rear. Will this fit in the ranger first of all, with the Accessories and oil pan. What would I have to do to get it in there. I am planning on keeping it efi. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also if you could send me a link where it may have been done so I can read up on that that would help as well.

Accessories, water pump, oil pan all must change. The long block will need to be converted to explorer front end, oil pan crown Vic double sump. Headers I can’t speak to precisely, mustang I don’t think will fit.

I went through just about all of those but could not find the information I was looking for about the mustang engine. Looking for a explorer 5.0 now

The information is a reverse acquisition. Meaning the articles focus on the right parts only, Explorer FEAD, etc- which should highlight that which needs to be deleted on the mustang donor.

Engines are identical if viewed as a grocery bag of parts, with a few differences in cam, etc. It’s what is outside the “bag” that is different.

Package wise, the packages are the same (contents are different), once the front accessories are tossed from the mustang. The Explorer swap articles highlight the specific parts that only appear on an explorer, and are required. A mustang has none of them.

You can also search for bronco (full size) FEAD conversion and that actually pictorially shows the differences.

But that’s all you’ll find as the stang Doesn’t swap without assistance from an explorer (or a large sawzall and driving without a radiator or grill!).

Explorer does swap directly.

You’ll have to compare the two between articles and pictorials.

94-95 Mustang 5.0's and 91-93 T-bird 5.0's water pumps are just about a 1/2" longer that Explorer 5.0 water pumps and are the second-best choice to use for a ranger swap. I put a 92 T-bird 5.0 in my 84 Ranger and was able to keep the radiator in the factory position.

The transmission (4r70) is adaptable to 2wd with tail shaft housing replacement.
