My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Cleaned up both, sold the '78 on Facebook today for $30 and I gave that beat up free one to my buddy. So I'm ahead $14 and two stoves. The '73 425 in the pic really cleaned up nice, think I'm gonna keep it.

Gave the 413 a workout heating water tonight:

Fresh chicken!

It is kind of amusing how easy the feathers come off after a quick dip in hot water.

It's the smell that cancels any amusement qualities for me...

I heard stories and had braced myself for that... and found it overhyped.

A little funk like a wet dog but I didn't see what the big deal was. They were mostly free range so maybe they were cleaner than most? We had a nice breeze to work in too.

Ours weren't free range... and usually did 30 or so at a time. I was also pretty young. Over the years I've smelled a lot of things worse. But those days are still etched in memory.

I used to have a customer (he passed a way a few years ago) that said he helped do it when he was a kid and was never able to eat chicken again. All he could taste was the smell.

The minute I smelled it frying in grandmas iron skillet... the smell from the cleaning process took a backseat.

Found a toaster!

Same sale I found a kind of nasty newer 425 for $2, it should clean up halfway decent I think. Had a full tank of good smelling fuel, a generic funnel and a pair of pliers in it too. And thus I have a Christmas present for my brother...

He mentioned wanting one to have around in case the power goes out so it should work good enough for that.

This stupid 425D has been fighting, I think I finally got it beat.

I tried spraying it with carb cleaner and got nowhere with it.

So we go to war, I picked up "the tool" to pull the checkvalve which works awesome.

Stuck check valve meet carburetor dip tank:

So after a quick dip in that the ball rattles like it is supposed to but I can't build pressure now. We are losing ground why? I notice new replacement check valves have an o-ring:

Mine does not, and the parts book does not show one either... but it has a place for one:

So I stuck an o-ring on it and it builds pressure perfect now.

I hope to try it tonight...

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
