Phone and computer updates and completely different than system updates for a vehicle. A phone or computer being slow has no relation to updates in a vehicle.

They improved the algorithms in the computer so everyone gets free update nothing in it for Tesla except people braggin they woke up to 10% more performance. Something no gas vehicle can do
Old automakers are in it to sell parts, this is why they hate Tesla. Can't add markups to free software update. Also old automakers are built on the dealer networks. Tesla is ordered on internet and doesn't have maintenance required so many service centers.

Yes stainless will dent but it's a helluva lot stronger than standard vehicle steel or aluminum.

You realize stainless steel is a generic term and means nothing right? Did they say it was 16 guage 316 steel? 304? 410? Could be chinese stainless which is just whatever scrap metal they find laying around. :dunno:

You can't say something is stronger when you have no idea what it is. :icon_rofl:

to each his own. I got tired of vehicle maintenance because it costs me money and time. I'd rather spend my time at a computer making money. It's nice just having a vehicle that works and never needs anything.
I absolutely hate doing maintenance!!I hate doing the same thing over and over... Why do I need to change the oil, I already changed that once. I like to modify things and try new stuff.

Yeah, I like to get outside and live a little.

Maintenance intensive DD's do get old pretty fast though.

I pretty much work so I can play with my Ranger.

I think sales are dwindling because the younger generation don't own a car, want one or need one. and the older folk have already updated to a newer car and won't likely need to upgrade for 5 to 10 years.
I would like something newer but when it doesn't take anything for a half ton to start at $50k and they don't really seem to depreciate much it makes it pretty easy to say "screw that"

I have had my F-150 for 14.5 years, paid for sounds better and better as they ratcheting up their prices.

This statement right here explains clearly to me why you ordered a cybertruck.

Not being offensive....just sayin.

I gotta agree with him, I get nothing out of changing ball joints and brakes and boring crap like that.

As far as maintence heavy DDs, yes its a pain. But thats why i try to keep my vehicles as close to stock as possible.

My ranger i literally pulled off a scrap pile and besides the whole injector issue i fought for a year (bad diagnoseing on my part) its been trouble free other then a few annoyances, and it sat for 12 frickin years.

My 77 also has served me well for many years.

EVs wont be trouble free. They'll still have issues, but they wont be issues you can fix with a socket set, and once it starts having issues itll go to the junkyard and thatll be that.

Plus most teslas are what? 3 maybe 4 years old at the oldest? They aint been around long enough to get a real feel for reliabilty.

I dont either.

But im not very meticulious about stuff either. Ill run it till it breaks then fix it and repeat.

This is also why i dont like modern cars, to much stuff is dependent on each other.

Yep. Spent way to much time and energy fixing stuff. I'm over that time in my life. I don't want to be a mechanic so wrenching on cars gains me nothing, except bloody knuckles.

No offense taken. I see vehicles as disposable as cell phones nowadays. I have no attachment to my new vehicles because they serve a basic purpose. get me from home to work. Since I spend so much time in them I want to be comfortable.

There are some model S's have been out since 2012 and pushing 500k miles. My highest mileage rangers only hit about 200k before needing too much in repairs

Thinking more about it most of the headache crap is steering, brakes and suspension.

Regen braking would help brakes but EV would still have everything else to fuss over.

They do, but for the brakes specifically they last much longer than brakes on an ICE so maintenance and repair is needed much less often.
Nearly all hybrids and EVs have some level of regenerative braking, which basically reverses the flow of electricity and uses the rotation of the wheels to charge the battery while slowing the vehicle. You can nearly drive one without touching the brake pedal at all. It's returns some of the spent electrical energy to the battery, extending it's range and lets you avoid wear and tear on your mechanical brakes at the same time. There are a few Volts and other PHEVs out there with well over 100k miles and the original brake pads.

A manual transmission can do the same thing.
