In opinion I think mossberg guns just plainly suck and they remind me of a rattle can because how loose everything is.. I tired going deer hunting with it and it was a pain because it made too much noise ..So now I use a Browning bps or my Remington 870 express...
The Browing BPS is a nice shotgun, I don't know if I could get used to the bottom eject (it just looks so wrong) but it looked and felt really nice. I would prefer it over the Wingmaster beside it.
The tacky wood, sandy feeling action, smaller magazine, action release on the wrong side of the trigger gaurd, lack of tang safety and sights that stick up a mile and a half over the barrel keep turning me off of the Express. I don't really use the extra shell in the mag, but I do like putting a whole box of 5 in the mag and pumping one in the chamber after I get through the barnyard and a cross a couple fences to where I am going to hunt. Dad has had an Express for years, I really do not care for it. More often than not it sits at home and dad takes out his 500 out to play.
I have had my current 500 for 15 years and haven't noticed excessive rattling that scares away the deer. Different strokes for different folks, if they were the complete crap that people love to say they are they wouldn't have been in production for 50 years and counting.
Aftermarket stocks can solve that.
If I wanted black or camo, both of which are available from Mossberg already on the gun. Aftermarket wood stocks are not terribly easy to find and add up enough to justify moving up to a fancier gun. Once apoun a time it penciled out to get nice looking stocks from the factory, both my current gun and dad's old 500 have nice looking walnut stocks.
