ok, well i just had to replace my stock (yes original) motorcraft battery that came with my 2000 3.0...this battery lasted 11 years and 170,000 miles.....is that weird?....i went thru 3 or 4 batteries in my 88 f-150 in a 3 year span.....is this a fluke or what?.

Whats the longest lasting battery uve had?....or any other related weirdness

yeah, that's a pretty good while for your battery to last. not really surprising though. factory batteries always last longer than any battery that you can buy from a parts store. during my brief 6 month employment at autozone, i probably changed/sold 300 batteries. people that came in with factory batteries were usually from cars that were 6 to 10 years old. just depends on the car, the environment the car is driven in and the owner.

there were exceptions to the rule though, my wife bought her 2007 mazda3 brand new and i had to replace her's late last year.

You can say that again... The factory Motorcraft battery I had in my '94 Ranger went kaput after the first year. Replaced it with a pair of Delco Voyager deep cycle batteries knowing I would be needing them for the winch I was looking at getting. Those Voyagers lasted me almost 9 years.

I briefly had a '93 2WD Ranger that I could tell the stock battery was also just starting to fade when I sold it in '94.

I still use the Voyagers. The ones in my BII are into their 6th year now and still strong as ever. An added plus, the Voyagers don't leak acid whatsoever, so no corrosion on the terminals to deal with.

I've got an optima yellow top that i bought in 02. it was improperly stocked in a sale rack for red tops, so i got it for the red top sale price. used in in my B2, ranger, and explorer. still lives on in my mom's 66 mustang.

why do ya'll think some last so much longer than others?.....seems to me that in this day and age battery technology should damn near be perfected

A lot of companys went to Mexico.
Lower quailty standards.
I have been replacing a butt load of 08 Delcos.
The Delco Voyagers are bad ass batterys but I think the newer ones are made by someone else now,ill know more in the next year when people come in bitching about them not lasting.
Ill stand by my DEKA's anyday, I have been for the last 7 years.

Just the other day at work I replaced a guys ORIGINAL battery in his 97 ranger. Finally wouldn't start his truck anymore at -10 Celsius.

If it was a 65 series I wouldn't doubt it............a 65 is the best battery design out IMO.

On my 2000 I replaced the original battery at 120,000 and 9 years old. It was still going strong but I was in the spending mood. I normally replace batteries long before they actually go bad. I've been stranded before because of a dead battery.

I was so impressed with the motorcraft battery that I bought another from the ford dealer. I know it costs more but i felt it was worth it.

i hope i dont regret goin with a non-motorcraft replacement.....only time will tell

I just bought Voyagers for my Ranger late '09 I think it was. I did notice the case and vent cap design had changed (they now have what appear to be the same removable caps that POS Johnson Controls batteries typically have, though they still do say "Made in U.S.A." on them). There's a very minute trace of acid evident around the little green "eye" indicator lens, but aside from that they seem to be good so far (no massive spewing acid out the vents like with the Mexican DieHards I had in there because I couldn't find any Voyagers at that moment :annoyed: ).

Wondering what kind of sealant I could maybe force into the crack around the eye... :icon_confused: Does sulfuric acid attack RTV?

I doubt it will hold but its worth a try.

I bought a chinese knock-off for my motorcycle and it seems to be working ok.
The bike came with a 270 CCA battery and the stock battery costs around $125. I found cheap knock-offs that had a 310 CCA and cost me only $75 and free shipping. These are AGM batteries. So far so good :headbang:

The battery out of my brothers 01 Edge is currently powering my 1993, wherever that truck is now. Unless the new owner replaced the battery.

His truck also had the stock wipers.. until he changed them last year.
