You will notice in the last pic that my shock mounts are flat, instead of hanging down like the factory ones....I removed the swaybar mounts on the explorer axle, and removed the spring perches and shock mounts from the ranger axle, and installed them on the exploder axle...Well, as my luck would have it, I got it together, went for a test drive (less than 1/4 mile round trip) and about 500 ft from the house the driveshaft decides it doesn't want to play nice, and the ears break off at the axle end...the u-joint and caps are still in the flange attached to the axle, but the driveshaft was aluminum, and didn't like it :temper: I had to remove the driveshaft in the rain and then get pulled to the house cause I have a blown front hub and don't have front drive :annoyed: Talk about bad luck. So tomorrow I'm going to rape my lowrider again and get the driveshaft from it and see it I can't make it work in SVT...

The stacked blocks scare me

Scared the other axle and this one too!

First it twisted an axle in half. (From the looks of the first photo there is some evidence that the axle twisted in half) HMMMM, Doughnuts, and catch traction with 37" IROKs and a the force of a V8= twist axle shaft in half. Unless the photo is decieving. :dunno:
Second one it exploded the ears!!!
Honestly I deeply know the whole problem! :icon_idea:
There is a crazy coon ass behind the wheel still stuck in drag racing hotrodding and still hasn't figured out unless he's in some really soupy shit to keep his right foot from depressing so forcefully on the skinny vertical pedal on the right side of the driver's floorboard. And with a V8 with, what was it on that exploder donor (196,000 and change). It might not take much more of that!!!
First once dude listen to all of us, take it easy and it'll stay together until you do what SR suggested and put HUGE axles in!!!

Copperhead,
Might be an omen to keep those monsters you got under the tarp for yours!!!

The stacked blocks scare me

Yeah, I don't like em too much myself...I actually went down, the lift kit comes with a 4 inch angled block, and I went with a 2 inch this time...I'm looking for a set of springs now to replace both the pack I have now and both blocks...If I don't find a set soon I'll end up going with another setup...and yeah, the exploder axle is on loan as is the driveshaft as of tomorrow...V8, 8.8 and my heavy stomping right foot is not a good combo :D SVT is off the trails til the heavy axles come in :icon_idea:
SVT

this thing is awsome. did you get the doubler done or did u get distraced by everything else exploding??

Thanks, Kris :icon_thumby: I'm still on the doubler, but it's not the highest priority. I am still waiting for some materials to come in as well as looking at different ways to make my intermediate shaft work...I've been considering using my Dana 20 tcase instead of the 1354, its about the same size, but way stronger and I can get additional gearset for it to give me more gearing options for the trails I'll be on...

Working on that is harder with that huge gauze wrap on your thumb, isn't it? :D

How's that wound healing?

It's healing ok, and yeah, you find ways to work around the injured extremeties...Here is a pic I just took of my thumb...it looks worse than what it is....I think I can upgrade to a bandaid, but will still have padding on it to protect it as it is still tender...

And here are some pics of the driveshaft thats FUBAR'd...

What's wierd is I still have the cap that is missing off the u-joint on the flange, and nothing shows signs of u-joint failure...guess it was aluminum driveshaft failure...:dunno:

Nothing a spot of weld couldn't have fixed. You need to have a drive shaft made. That length+aluminum+hard wheeling=another tow home.

Ouch! Yup, I've been there before. I've smashed my fingers, cut open my shins, burned my back with weld sparks, arc burn on my face. And that was on Monday....... :icon_twisted:

As far as aluminum driveshafts go, anything with cast aluminum is on the lightweight side, but not on the strong side. Cast will break before it warps.

Definitly go for a steel one! :icon_thumby:

I just found out that a 02-05 Sport Trac driveshaft are one piece shafts and are supposed to be the same size as supercab rangers...I will find out tomorrow and if it is, I'll be hunting a Sport Trac shaft as they are steel :icon_thumby:

I know the Ranger also had single pieces steelies up until '01(roughly). I got one from CeeGee's and it's a steel driveshaft out of a 2001 Ranger.

All those goodys under the tarp......are about to find a hiding place at a friends shop to under go prep work without the prying eyes of the wife...:D

98-2000 or 2001 Ranger had the steel shafts, as i'm rocking one in the ranger. I think it is 2001 when they went to alum but im not sure...

The steel ranger shaft is larger in Dia. Then the 2 piece offerend in the Ext cabs. But smaller then the alum shafts in the ranger.

Also, have you added Belltech shackles to your ride yet SVT? if not, that will rid you of the factory block, and let you run only the 1 block rather then 2.

Thats what i did for my lift kit, it called for double blocks, i went explo springs belltech shackles, and a single 3'' block to match 6'' of lift up front.

Hope that helps
