Gt-12

gt6001-40.jpg

so,i figured since i went and made the patch panel,i might as well put it in.
here i've trimmed the offending material out of the picture(ha ha-get it,it's not in the picture[groan])

gt6002-35.jpg

after some very careful trimming(i spent almost an hour fitting it)the panel is a perfect butt fit.then,a few tacks keep it in place.

i was really surprised at how getting the ugly metal out of the arch straightened out the rest of the fender.i was ready to do a bunch of beating on it to get it right, but just welding in the patch brought it all into line.
bonus!
now i've just got to do the lower rear section.i'll see how much energy i have after work tomorrow.

glad you've got some reasonable speed going again-it's frustrating waiting 15 minutes for a photo to load, especially if that photo turns out to be nothing interesting.

been doing something i hate today,i've got a boat here that among other things i have to redo the antifouling paint on the bottom.that means getting the boat off the trailer.

krl001.jpg

blocking the back is easy, but the front i block then pull the trailer a bit till the next crossmember or axle hits, reposition blocks and repeat about ten times till the trailer is out.this means spending hours crawling around under a boat trailer setting jacks and blocking, all the while worrying about the 20,000 pounds of boat you could be seconds from dropping on your head.

it's always nice to get to this point and still be alive.
i know this isn't about the gt,but it will be paying for some of it.and,it's what i'm doing instead of working on the car right now.

work sucks.

Sheesh, be careful buddy!!

Nice thing about work tho, pays the bills, er pays for project parts. :D

20,000lbs hey, that's a big boat!! Don't see too many BIG boats around here, mostly ski boats, lots of big aluminium river boats too, big engines and jets, the fun stuff. :D

Those rims suit that car something fierce. I'm thinking I may seriously head down that way for a little holiday after the winter.

ya,carefull is the word of the day when doing that.this boat is 26',and is the third of three on this job.the other two were another 26 and a 29.i usually stick to 30' and under at home, bigger boats i rent out a shed with a boat hoist by the marina.
theres some genuine big boats here too, like 100+' yachts owned by multi-millionaires that hang out for the fishing season.i've done some detail work for them, but no money jobs.i think they have their own people to do that down south.

git on down here!i'm sure you'll like it,it's pretty laid back.

I think that those yacht owners should read your build threads then they would hire you real quick.

maybe, but then again it's probably not anything they'd understand anyway.they're just businessmen who hire others to take care of the dirty work.besides,i keep about as busy as i want to be as it is.

gotta keep some build time,eh!

speaking of which...

i welded on the left rear fender today, and got to preparing for all the points where the body will join the chassis.this means getting everything perfectly aligned.
that is more work than you may realise...seems that when you cut the body of a car into a bunch of little pieces then go to weld it back together, all the bits don't just fall into place.i put the glass in,as this is one thing that won't change shape-as such it is a good reference for fitting everything together, along with a bunch of measuring and good old eyeballing.

a couple of interesting notes on the size of this car;i'm an average size person(a bit over 5' 11'')and the door handles are about even with my knees, the roof's highest point is about an inch higher than my belly button.
that's in socks.

i wouldn't want to have a head on collision with a truck lol. it would drive right over you

if it's a big enough truck it won't even scratch the paint on the roof.

That car is just far too awesome.

you're making me blush:blush:thanks, for the amount of work(not to mention money)that is going into it,i really hope i end up with something that's worth it.

i was having another thought about the paint...all the frame and suspension is going to be basic gloss black,no fancy colors.all the aluminum will be raw,and as discussed, the basic body will be red.
what i was thinking of was if i should do the stripes in silver instead of white,to go better with all the aluminum as there's no other white on the car.there won't be much aluminum visible when driving, but openning the hood or looking underneath will expose a bunch.plus, the inner wheelwells will be aluminum.just a thought.

I think that would look really nice, red & silver compliments nicely.

that it does.....it'll go good with the wheels too.

How shit gwaii I just found this thread I read it end to end I first though that motor is gigantic but it has came out awesome, I suprised I having seen any build pics of that in hotrod mag. Very nice can't wait to see it finished.:icon_thumby: BTW I think it would look good in matte black real matte black not rattle can. but Red and silver woild be badass.
