Don'tcha just hate when you're trying to work on your own junk but other people get in the way? I do.

Good job on the patch, Tom! That looks worlds better than what was there before, and it turned out really well for the tools used! Not that there is anything wrong with using what you have around, just not something you see everyday. Good job!

Oh God, yes. If not friends, that it's family. And sometimes it isn't even difficult stuff...it can be as basic as tire pressure or brake fluid level. It's ridiculous. To them, it's 5 minutes or one evening of your time. To you, it's gas & time over there, spent energy, forcefully having to do your hobby, and losing an entire evening of wrench time your own car.

oh,ya.i saw that on another thread.should be a pretty cool car when ya get it together.i damn near bought a 914(4 cyl)about 25 years ago,but my friends talked me out of it.it was pretty rusty, and didn't run too good, but i think it would have been a fun project.

by the way,i don't listen to what friends say to me anymore.
maybe that's why i don't have any friends:D

Thanks, and you've got friends.

And I'm still asking my friends for their opinions. They both have an eye for something, in case I don't catch it.

Wicked!

Yes I'm a PG resident and work in the freight forwarding industry.

Amazing, I was on here yesterday afternoon, I work nigh shift so I hit the hay around supper time, I check back on here today and 2 more pages posted up, lol. You have quite the following on here man.

I'm really digging the body work. I always here "your either a mechanic or a body man, not both" LOL, pffff, I beg to differ....... once you get past your own fear of cutting it up, reshaping it and welding it back together, then the fun begins!!

I'm not great at body work yet, but I'm learning. I have plans to make a removable hard top BII, using the factory top. Once I'm comfortable with my abilities to keep sheet metal warpage to a minimum, she's getting chopped, lol. Keep the tips coming man!! :D

I definitely understand and practice using what you have on hand to get the job done good. Budget budget budget, I have 2 kids that suck the money right out of my pocket before I get it, lol.

THIS is the key to all modifications.
most people who say they can't do a certain whatever don't really know if they can or not.they simply need to get the guts to try it,most will find they are capable of more than they realise.
and i don't buy the'if only i had the proper equipment'arguement either....if you have the will and the drive to do something, you will find a way.if you don't have that,a warehouse full of tools won't get the job done. :icon_welder:

A buddy stopped by the day i cut my fenders for the flares,I was using a cut off wheel on my trusty 4-1/2............
"You need a JigSaw"............."Dont have one but I do have plenty of Cut Off wheels though!."
If you ever have the chance to watch a true old school BlackSmith it will blow your mind what they can do with a few Hammers a anvil and some fire.

that is where i've got a lot of my inspiration from.i've spent some time studying blacksmithing, and knew one of the last of the old time blacksmiths years ago(one for whom it was just his profession, not a hobbyist or museum exhibit)and i learned from him that your greatest tool is your mind...you can visualize what you want the metal to become, and have the processes to make it so.
your knowledge, experience, and imagination are the tools.the hard items you hold in your hand can be anything that gets the job done.
one thing i've pointed out to people is that i can do more with a rock and a stick than my grandmother could do with the best equipped shop in the world.

but boy,she could sure bake some good bread:icon_thumby:

Fried Chicken and Biscuits my friend,Grandma had the best!
Cast Iron skillet and lard.

stop that...you're making me hungry:bawling:

back to the blacksmith-you know how you can tell a real smith;look at his tools.the only brand you'll find is his own mark.
hammers,tongs,chisels,even files.
a real smith makes ALL his own tools.it's the first thing he learns during his apprenticeship.that, and keeping the fire stoked.

That seems a little familiar.
