Crawlin's Build Thread

I was wondering if that brake line setup tie wrapped to the coil was going to give you problems when you crammed it a few times. I would fab a bracket to mount them to. Nice build man! You have definitely given me some ideas!

The road to my grandfathers farm in Northeast Nebraska. The snow was cleared by payloaders and then by a snow plow. Traffic is one way. Forgive my uncle, he drives a chevy.

I started the doubler project and began taking the 1350 apart to start the mockup of the block off plates and do some cutting. I still need to find a rear case.

Doublers are awesome. I recommend putting the vent on the blockoff plate itself rather than the top of the case. Good luck with the build. You'll LOVE it when you get it installed.

Bray, i've seen videos of your ranger go up some pretty insane stuff and other 'overbuilt' rigs that certainly benefit from the huge gear reduction seem to do well too. Im tired of burning my clutch in the rocks.

What do you guys run for a shaft between the doubler and the transfer case? I have heard of some people welding them and it failing and I have heard of having something made by a machine shop that cost 300 bucks. I have been looking into a doubler, but I want make sure it will hold up since it is my DD. I know Bray DD's his doubler, and so far I havnt heard anything bad.:icon_twisted:

crawlin - It makes wheelin rocks possible. Even for decently technical wooded trails I run double low 2nd gear. Single low 1st is still too tall. The gearing options are awesome. I've got a gear for every type of terrain.

Plum - I got my kit from D.D. Machine, and by the looks of it, so did crawlin. Its an excellent kit (just includes blockoff plate, clocking ring, shaft, and hardware). The shaft it uses is a 1 piece heat treated ChroMo shaft. Guys have beat the piss out of them with few failures (just one that I know of, and it was in a comp rig). I've got almost 40k miles on mine and still goin strong.

Only problem I had was figuring out the vent location to run the fluid amount I wanted. The stock fluid fill hole only allows for 3/4 of a quart of fluid to be added. I now fill from the stock vent location (vent is replaced with plug) and my vent is at the highest point possible located on the block off plate. I run 1.5 quarts of fluid, and it all stays in the case. I had problems with it purging out of the vent before.

Does the D.D. Machine kit use counter sunk bolts to bolt the front half of the case to the plate and eliminate the need to clearance the stock t-case? From what I can see I am assuming the t-case bolts up using the little holes around the 5" hole and can be clocked in just about any position?

"There are 30 drilled holes in the plate that gets bolted to the box4rocks plate and 20 threaded holes in the clocking plate (one mounted to rear T case) one just pulls the front cover off the box4rocks and then pulls the planetary gear out with the cover ,
Put in the 10 bolts holding the two adapters together (locktight needed) then slide in the shifter fork and shift hub, then put the new shifter shaft in and put the front cover back on with the planetary gears."

Its the D.D. Machine kit. Best threads i've seen on the subject are on rrorc. Do you need the company contact info?

Just read through your buildup, awesome work man! Did you ever get the rubbing to stop between the one piece driveshaft and gas skidplate?
