New tools you've bought recently?

Featured Build Threads

Fix it so it's always "on". Maybe even glue it in place. Then put a switch on the cord.

I’ll send a pic. A lot going on since I got home from the funeral stuff.

did you try their online parts system?
I've had replacement parts shipped directly to me.
long shot for sure

If the tools weren't bought recently, but were tossed in a shed still in the unopened packaging and forgotten about. Then recently rediscovered when cleaning out said shed, but you've already bought another a couple of times (also lost in the shed). Does that still count for the purposes of this thread?

Asking for a friend... ;)

I bought a gutter cleaning attachment for my Milwaukee leaf blower. It was cheap, marked down to $43 at Northern Tool on their clearance rack. Home Depot has it on the shelf for $89.

I could have rigged up something with some PVC pipe, elbows, and a Fernco rubber adapter, but it would have cost about the same or more. This was a cleaner solution for the same price.

Picture?

Does it actually work?

Yeah, they don’t make the internal parts

That’s where the advantage of owning a shed of miracles comes in. Years ago, I made an adapter out of PVC pipe, but I didn’t think of the rubber boot, so I used this incredible invention called duct tape. It was a little heavy, but it worked like a charm. Then I got gutter screens and it’s still hanging in the shed of miracles somewhere waiting to be repurposed again.

Harbor Freight really knows how to suck you in... They have a 25% off all Bauer coupon this weekend and they just had a Bauer cordless bypass pruner come out a couple months ago... the reviews are all positive so far so I bought one yesterday but for $49 I don't think it's bad so I went back today and got another and a 2Ah battery (lighter than the 3 and 5Ah I have other than the one original 1.5). I have 12 apple trees to trim this winter and this little guy has as much power as full size loppers and way less awkward.

Just have to make super duper sure to keep the booger hook away from the opening!!! The thing looks hungry and there's no stopping once you start Harry!

I played with one of them a little bit ago and you can stop it once you start but still better not to put a finger in an area designed for shearing wood... I'm not going to get too crazy about trimming the trees until they go full dormant though...

@Rick W how about adding a switch on the cord and also one of these:

Turn the tool on, step on the switch, tool starts until you let off with your foot. Same price as a new grinder though. But you could use the switch for other things?

I have several cheap grinders and usually I put wire wheels on them. That seems to keep them alive longer than grinding wheels. Years ago Menards had a black Friday sale where you got a grinder plus a whole bunch of grinding/cutoff/wire wheels for $10... you basically got the grinder for free and a great deal on the rest. Then they put the leftovers that somehow didn't sell on clearance for $5 I think!!! I hate cheap grinders more than just about any other cheap tool but sometimes they have a place in the job so I keep a few around.

This is a pretty good idea. wire the switch in a power cord that is a few feet long, plug it into an extension cord, plug any tool you want into it, and you have foot feed for any tool in the shop.

I actually thought of one of those foot switches, but like you say, it’s the same price as the tool. And my use is heavy for a homeowner, but light for anybody who actually uses it to work for a living. Point is, I’m completely happy with one that has a cord on it, and I’m sure I’ll find a sale come Christmas time.

In the meantime, I’m just changing wheels on my old heavier, better one, but I’m still going to try to figure out how to put a switch right on the body of the broken one.

And one last thought on the foot switch: bad legs, that would be as risky as hot wiring it without a switch!
