What brand of hand tools do you prefer?

Featured Build Threads

I prefer DeWalt power tools, but at the moment have every brand BUT DeWalt. I used to work on a ladder all day and dropping an impact, or Hammer drill from 15 ft up will really tell you if a certain product is durable. Kobalt and Walmart's Hyper Tough seem to be just as good, for my daily activities.
As far as hand tools, I like Klein for my dykes and tools, like wire strippers, lineman's pliers and needle nose. I fancied "Snap-On" for a while but the Harbor Freight stuff has been carrying the load for a while now. The whole "get it for the job and if it breaks, just get a new one, at this price" thing has been paying off for me.

like Curious Hound, I tend to get what I need as I need it, I am more apt to get a quality tool for the job rather than have a matched set. I do like the idea of the Harbor freight case with everything all sorted and ready to go, but I pretty much hae most of what I need hand tool wise, in a mix of brands. What I really need is a better toolbox storage and sorting system. especially for the wrenches. And then there are the socket sets that do not have the 18 mm and stop at the 19 mm and I need a larger size socket or the 18mm, then look at the nice socket case that the set came in and no place to put the new sockets...

I also need more than the 5 sizes of gear wrench ratcheting combination wrenches that came in a nice set from Costco. but I digress...

Aaaand now I have a new channel to watch.
You (and everyone who likes tools) might as well add the Torque Test Channel to your watch list. He's in the running for best tool testing channel on Youtube. Does a ton of tests on hand tools.

This dude is legit and approaches things from an engineer's mindset, and with humor no less:

Been enjoying my Tekton stuff. The warranty process is pretty painless. I'm only working on my own stuff so a few days of waiting is ok.

Mine it a complete mash up of brands. All I care about is if they get the job done

Don't laugh. If you're near the East Coast and have Lidl grocery stores around, their Parkside tool brand is actually pretty decent and has a 3–year warranty. It's Chinese stuff, but still decent.

Lidl competes mainly with Aldi for food items. The thing is that if you see something you like in the non-food specials, including tools, you should buy it then because it might sell out and not return for some time if ever.

Lidl claims its Parkside brand is the No. 1 DIY tool brand in Europe, where the grocer is based (Germany).

My brother was eyeing my Parkside socket and wrench set in its case when we were using it while changing the water pump on my Ranger. I had just happened to buy one more set to give to him for Christmas, so I gave it to him early. He was impressed enough with the set that he added it to his work tools in his work van (he repairs forklifts). This set has 1/4" and 3/8" wrenches, sockets, deep sockets, extensions, mini bits, and even external Torx sockets, all for $60 with the case. Those have been selling fast.
