The CEO of Flock said that surveillance is security.

WTF is a Robit?!

Is that a killer robot rabbit???

Hearing on the news daily about police/ dispatchers/ whoever being arrested for using the databases improperly. Mostly stalking their ex- wives / husbands / girlfriends/ whatever.

It's also the women at the DMV.

Back in 2016 I was at a DMV in Ohio renewing my plates and one of the girls came up to the counter and ran the license plate of someone she had seen at a club the night before and told another girl what she was doing as she was doing it.

You can also use this website to see what municipalities and PDs have cameras installed.

A lot more small towns that I frequent than I thought. Did not expect Avoca to have them.

One step closer to skynet
Well.

Skynet and terminator are the complete opposite of what you're currently experiencing. The idea of skynet was somewhat similar, but in the fiction, both Skynet and the terminator androids were designed to prey on human strength - a control system and killer robits that were designed to overpower and overwhelm humans on a battlefield.

The current systems of surveillance and control are the complete opposite - they are entirely designed to prey on human weakness so that they never have to rival human strength. Why bother building a robit that can pick up a weapon or artillery piece when you can just psyop, mindf*ck, and addict a human into complete pacification. A human *will not* fight a war against machines if it is addicted to drugs, porn, doomscrolling, gambling, etc.

What we're up against is far, far worse than Skynet

Like the human population in Wall-E...

Like the human population in Wall-E...
Sorta. Wall-E missed the part where a measurable portion of our GDP is OnlyFans, sports betting, and campaign contributions from foreign lobbyists.

Axon is another company making roadside cameras. You know the company for cops' body cameras.

Axon, Motorola, and several other companies are selling spy cams that do the exact same thing as Flock. The technology itself needs a nationwide ban - "in the name of public safety" is just complete BS.

I get why you'd do a 30 day spy app trial for a discount but I definitely don't get why anyone leaves that stuff on long term. There is no way in hell any company is going to keep discounting you....they are either keeping your data to sell or they are building a case to justify future increases or both. Progressive tried getting me to install that crap but I told them to suck it, won't work anyway on OBD-1 vehicles.

State Farm's just sticks on your window, you could put it on your lawn mower.

There are also Bluetooth scanners that are attached to the cameras. Stores are using these too. It will scan every Bluetooth, then associate such devices with a license plate. Throw in some facial recognition and a lot of data can be sold.

If your goal is identifying these while driving, the quickest visual cues are:

Flock: Dedicated skinny black pole with a small solar panel mounted above the camera, or on light posts, telephone poles, etc.

16170.jpg

Axon Lightpost: Mounted directly to an existing streetlight or utility pole with no dedicated solar pole, or similar in fashion to Flock with dedicated poles.

16163.jpg

Motorola/Vigilant: Usually attached to utility poles, traffic signal poles, or overpasses, often with a separate communications or power box.

Genetec/PIPS/Rekor: Frequently mounted on existing traffic infrastructure, toll gantries, parking entrances, or highway poles. Their appearance varies more by installer than by manufacturer.

It should be noted that not all camera systems are overly invasive. Flock and some of the others collect and collate data and others like Platesmart only takes a high speed picture of the rear of the vehicle and the only time a notification goes to the police from it is when a plate with a BOLO of some type is on it. It also has a credentialed search feature but the only information in the system is the plate and whatever is visible in the picture of the rear (color, type of vehicle, identifying bumper stickers, etc). Platesmart has no connection to any other databases unlike Flock.

This has been a big debate lately where I live but the township purposely went with Platesmart because they didn’t trust Flock and some of the others. They also have intersection overview cameras but again, it’s just like the security camera you might have on your home, no database connections. What you see is what you get. If it has to be there, I’d rather have these systems over Flock.
