PCV Vavle question for a greenhorn

Hey y'all, I just had my 03 V6 4.0L Ranger taken in for some brake repairs, and they found the PCV elbow collapsed and deteriorated. Rather than paying an extra couple hundred, it seemed like something I could probably do myself for much cheaper.
I've watched some videos and read some of the threads here, but I'm finding the elbow itself seems fine. It was hanging, disconnected from the intake altogether. When I felt around the intake, it looks like there's just an open hole, not the other end this locking mechanism that seems to be connected to the elbow.
I can't find information on what to buy to replace this, and everything I find in my searches seems to pull up the tube itself.
At the end of the month we've gotta take this baby into DEQ so any tips for this process would be super helpful.

Post some photos of the pcv and where it's decomposed.

The 4.0 valve cover fittings are funky.

Yeah this looks pretty close. The valve connector itself that she pulls out has that locking mechanism, that I'd assume has a counterpart that's connected to the intake. The counterpart is what I'm missing, insofar that I can tell. The intake where I'd plug the valve just seems like an empty hole.

Or maybe this is all a moot point. MaybeI don't need to use these exact fittings, and can grab another connector in its place.

@PetroleumJunkie412 It definitely seems that way, based off what I've found. To be honest, when I looked in there, I didn't see anything obviously decomposed or collapsed. Maybe the fitting I'm missing was just pulled when they flagged it. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. I work fairly long days, and didn't get around to it today.

I'm pretty inexperienced with working on cars, so some of the wording may be off here, so apologies about that. But I'm pretty willing to get dirty and learn by trying, so I appreciate y'alls help, either way.

I got a rubber elbow in the Dorman HELP section at the local parts shack about 10 years ago. Been fine since.
