I built almost a complete carport over the rangers parking spot.

I have a carport on the side of the garage and one in front of the garage over the half where the wife parks but i decided to use up my wood from the rv carport i pulled down in june or july and see if could get s frame up before having to buy wood.

Nope, 17' or 23' is just to odd of a size to have any 2x12s or 2x10s laying around at so i had to go buy two 2x12x16 snd teo 2x10x16 so i could do the exterior frame. My left over wood then fit three or four cross pieces inaide because i needed 174 and 3/4" and these were 150" long. So once i did that, i dug around and found some corrugated metal and was able to put up a 6' row of metal at the end of the carport. I put up some of the shade mesh nets over the opening by the garage door for now because i need two more 2x12x16 and then the rest of the corrugated metal and i will be in the shade next summer when i do any car/truck work.

It will be so nice. Man, what a difference it has made today and yesterday while putting a new auto trans in the 03 wrangler. I think i will just sit out there om a lawn chair and watch cars drive to the fishing pier once i am done.

Thats what me neighbor does. He had all kinds of shade in his yard so now i understand how much nicer it is.

This is the mesh nets i have. 6 or 8x10, i think

God dang, sideways again

Thats before i out in the cross pieces and corrugated metal

Yesterday was mostly trying to chip away at the green Ranger project. Plus a little work in the shop. Managed to cut myself again on the steel for the frame braces so I flap wheeled all the sharp edges.

Cleaned up the IAC valve and the throttle body. The pipe from the EGR valve to the throttle body was completely closed with build up :(. The setup was nice to be able to clean without (much) debris falling into the intake. Interestingly, I could almost swear the two bolts holding the IAC to the throttle body had red loctite on them. It was not rust and it was red and well, idk. I am not using any to put them back in.

In sad news, my coolant uv finally paid off, but I found a small amount pooling below my exhaust manifold so as I sense a head gasket in my future :(((

More likely that you have a freeze plug going out than head gasket, still not the most fun...

I just used the '97 to relocate some branches to my burn pit, probably won't burn today but we'll see what decide to do...

I'm hopeful. Like you said, not fun but better than a head gasket imo. I have to clean up down there and then track the leak more closely.

I frickin wish I could burn. Too windy and dry in central Nebraska :(

Well, I managed to wire wheel two really rusty bolts on the green Ranger and spray them with lube to see if I can get lucky enough for it to come apart. And that was as far as that project got…

My buddy Paul came out to help by doing the bearings and seals in the rear axle of dad’s Ranger. He brought help but ran into problems and I got dragged into it and then I had problems and it became an exercise in “what’s next to go wrong” and here we are with me on the front porch having a beer and cigar because I’m feeling a bit under appreciated for all that I do and I need a minute.

Oh yeah, dad’s Ranger isn’t done yet, have to shuffle vehicles and move it in range of the torches to get the fill plug out

Don’t burn it, even if it’s the head gasket. You’ll feel better after you fix it.

And it may have been a shock when you discovered it, but just take a shower and put on some clean clothes, and just go step-by-step and it will all seem like a distant memory in a day or two.

I had bought a Battery Tender a couple weeks ago. The pre-made battery harness is bought was a bit short for how i wanted to route it. It was raining pretty good this morning...So I pulled it out... drank coffee at the kitchen table... added about 18 inches to it and added the braided covering. It's weird working with it because I'm use to split convoluted tubing.

When it quit raining... routed it the way I wanted.

It turned out to be one of those great fall days... got a few other fall tasks done.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted anything but there’s a reason. I never thought that my Ranger would save my life, but it did. Sept 23 I was welding in a patch and while grinding the spot welds, I suddenly got extremely fatigued and had a slight tightness in my chest. I went in and lay down for a few minutes and then went back out to start again. Within a few minutes of using a 3” rolock die grinder the same feeling again. I went back inside and told my wife something was wrong. Called EMS who came out and did an EKG that showed normal rhythm. Loaded me up and before they left the driveway I went out. Don’t remember much until waking up a couple days later in ICU with a nasty scar on my chest. Triple bypass of 3 95% blockages. I had no symptoms, no pain, no classic signs of a heart attack, so listen to your body. I’m as hard headed as they come, but by the grace of God I listened this time. Now to heal up enough to get back to work. I feel like I could now but that incision will take a while to heal.

EMS couldn’t stitch up that metal before they left?
